<p>Named after Durham College’s third president, Dr. Gary Polonsky, this area acts as a gathering place for students. It features benches, trees and a reflecting pond.

<br>Polonsky Commons fosters a strong sense of community and features outdoor pathways and meeting places, giving students opportunities for interaction and shared learning.
<br>
<br>Below the commons is a geothermal heating and cooling system that is the largest in Canada and the second largest in North America. This Borehole Thermal Energy System comprises more than 375 thermal wells in a field 200-metres (656 feet) deep. Academic buildings are linked to a central plant through an underground tunnel.<br></p>

<p>Located on the fourth floor of the Centre for Collaborative Education (CFCE), this simulation lab provides a hands-on training space for <a target="_blank" href="https://durhamcollege.ca/programs/practical-nursing" alt="Practical Nursing"><strong>Practical Nursing</strong></a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://durhamcollege.ca/programs/personal-support-worker" alt="Personal Support Worker"><strong>Personal Support Worker</strong></a> students. It is equipped with patient simulators so that students can learn vital signs assessment, medication administration, wound care, intravenous initiation and maintenance and more.<br></p>

<p>To mark the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a <a target="_blank" href="https://durhamcollege.ca/info-for/indigenous-students/information-and-resources/weeping-willow" alt="Weeping Willow Tree" class="on"><strong>Weeping Willow Tree</strong></a> was planted in commemoration of the Indigenous children who did not make it home from Indian Residential, Day and Industrial Schools as space for our community to consider their role in reconciliation.<br></p>

<p>A central point between the Centre for Collaborative Education and the Student Services building, the <a target="_blank" href="https://durhamcollege.ca/student-life/get-involved/livinggreen/geothermal-field-and-innovation-centre" alt="Naanaagide’endamowin Courtyard" class="on"><strong>Naanaagide’endamowin Courtyard</strong></a> geothermal field is located underground at the Oshawa campus. The field harnesses 550 tons (1.9 megawatts) clean, sustainable geothermal power, which is then processed through the Energy Innovation Centre and sent to the Gordon Willey building to fuel its energy needs, representing the college’s commitment to sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint.<br><br>On September 30, 2021, Durham College announced a commitment to transforming the outdoor gathering space located next to the Centre for Collaborative Education into an Indigenous learning space. Fresh landscaping, new walkways and benches cover the Naanaagide’endamowin Courtyard, creating open greenspace for DC students and employees to work, rest and play.<br></p>

<p>Vaso’s Field features FIFA-certified artificial turf, offering an improved playing surface for varsity and intramural sports leagues and community recreation groups using the multi-sport facility.

<br>Vaso’s Field is named in honour of Vaso Vujanovic, a legendary soccer coach who led the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.durhamlords.com/" alt="Durham Lords" class="on">Durham Lords</a> to multiple provincial championships. To check out, students must present a valid student ID card in L123, which is scanned along with the asset tag on the item being signed out.<br><br>Available equipment includes DSLR cameras, lenses, tripods, flashes, digital video cameras, graphic tablets, microphones and more. Students work with faculty and researchers to develop experiential applications, which integrate motion capture (mocap), virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and virtual production (VP). Students in select programs in the <a target="_blank" href="https://durhamcollege.ca/academic-faculties/faculty-of-media-art-design" alt="Faculty of Media, Art &amp; Design">Faculty of Media, Art &amp; Design</a> have access to this studio as part of their studies.<br></p>

Mixed Reality Capture Studio (Oshawa campus)

<p>As the first of its kind in Canada, the Integrated Manufacturing Centre (IMC) is a world-class, industrial-grade, automated facility primarily used by students in the college’s <a target="_blank" href="http://www.durhamcollege.ca/programs/electro-mechanical-engineering-technology" alt="Electromechanical Engineering Technology" class="on">Electromechanical Engineering Technology</a> program. The facility houses major equipment components including:</p><ul><li>Human-machine interface terminals.</li><li>Industrial networks and robots.</li><li>Conveyor systems for material handling.</li><li>Programmable logic/automation controller (PLC/PAC) hardware and software.</li><li>Ethernet controlled Variable Frequency Drives (VFD).</li><li>Distributed Input/Output (I/O) sensors and actuators.</li><li>Vision cameras.</li><li>Bar code scanners.</li><li>Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) read and write capabilities.</li><li>Servo-controlled linear sliders.</li><li>Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software.</li><li>Instrumentation and process control systems containing level, flow and pressure control loops.</li><li>Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) controllers for closed-loop control.</li><li>Differential pressure transmitters.</li><li>Digital trend recorders.<br></li></ul>

<p>The manufacturing part of the Integrated Manufacturing Centre (IMC) facility is focused on project-based learning for <a target="_blank" href="http://durhamcollege.ca/metc" alt="Mechanical Engineering Technician (METC)">Mechanical Engineering Technician (METC)</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://durhamcollege.ca/mety" alt="Mechanical Engineering Technology students (METY)" class="on">Mechanical Engineering Technology students (METY)</a>, where smaller projects from multiple courses form pieces of a larger capstone project.</p><p>The IMC provides students with the skills that employers expect to be able to plan, design, collaborate, communicate and solve problems. The facility houses major equipment components including:</p><ul><li>5-axis CNC machining centre.</li><li>9-axis CNC machining centre.</li><li>One 2-axis CNC lathe.</li><li>Three 3-axis CNC milling machines.</li><li>CNC plunge EDM.</li><li>Coordinate measurement Machine (CMM).</li><li>FANUC gantry robotic system.</li><li>High accuracy 3D digital manufacturing printer.<br></li></ul>

<p>Located in the H-Wing, this lab provides <a target="_blank" href="https://durhamcollege.ca/programs/biomedical-engineering-technology" alt="Biomedical Engineering Technology" class="on">Biomedical Engineering Technology</a> students with hands-on experience using a variety of biomedical patient simulators and test and measurement devices. It includes anesthesia equipment, bedside and central monitoring, dialysis machines, infusion pumps, patient monitor information and database systems and physiological measurement devices, enabling students to build projects from the ground up, using equipment found in their respective industries.<br></p>
